Discipline to exercise, something I have written about before will always be more important then motivation as they will come and go and can vary differently day to day as well.

So here I have outlined 5 things which I think can help people keep their discipline when it comes to exercise, these are not in a top 5 order, just 5 tips;

1 – Be realistic – With your goals, how often you can train etc., make short, medium and long term goals. Very often people when I ask people what their goals are they will say the long term and never even talk about a short term goal. The short term is the most important, set yourself a long term goal and then numerous short terms goals, make sure you hit the short term goals and you will hit the long term goal in time.

2 – Music – I love Hip Hop, I hate the music played in the gym. When I hear a Dr Dre beat, 2pac song etc. it gets me pumped as it were. Music can alter your mood in a good way. I really notice how my workout is affected without good music

3 – Prepare the night before – Every night I prepare my bag for the next day, a simple thing like that can really improve motivation, mind-set and mood to training on that day. It also means you are not stressing in the morning trying to get everything ready. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail as they say.

4 – Train with someone – Personally I prefer training either by myself or with Danielle, classes are not really my thing but if they are for you then get your friends together (as long as not breaking co-vid rules) and train together, make it fun and make it a social thing by all means

5 – Vary your training – Unless you are training for a specific sport etc. or you just really love one type of training vary your routine. I am very much into Crossfit because I like the variety of training such a sport brings and that will reflect in my own training. I tend to go through weekly and monthly blocks in my own training as to how I train. At the moment I am going for a long run once a week to train for a marathon and doing a hypertrophy routine, next week I am back to doing more of a Crossfit based week though. It keeps it interesting
