Deadlifts, Squats, Burpess, nope none of them. The best exercise for fat loss and health in general is …………………………… walking and even more important then that is having a calorie deficit. A Calorie Deficit is all you need for fat loss but a great way and underused way of creating one is walking.

Yes that’s correct, basic every day walking, something which people are doing a lot more of now because of Covid-19 but as a whole most people don’t do anywhere near enough walking or NEAT (Non-exercise activity thermogenesis) .

So what exactly is non-exercise activity thermogenesis exactly? It is the energy expended by your body for everything that we do during the day that is not sleeping, eating, playing sport or going to the gym. So walking, gardening, housework even typing all expends energy, obviously some a lot more than others.

Every day I make sure I get in plenty of steps, more than the 10,000 steps most people aim for. An average day will be about

25,000 but sometimes up to 40,000. Getting a daily walk in is something I do 7 days a week without fail.

Now that may seem a little extreme compared to the 10,000 steps most people will aim for, that 10,000 steps is all based on a marketing campaign which was aired before the 1964 Tokyo Olympics by a company which had developed a Pedometer called Manpo-Kei which in English means 10,000 steps,

That’s the bare minimum you should aim for but get in as many as you can throughout the day. Now I have just spoke about fat loss but it’s also great at preventing back pain, making you healthier, more sociable etc. there are so many benefits to walking.

Probably not the answer you expected but you have to get the basics in place first so let’s get walking people.
